Yo-Yoing is a great PE activity. It is an individual sport which encourages practice and all students (and PE teachers!) LOVE learning how. Yo-yoing is a fine motor sport, differing from many large motor sports in PE. This allows students of various abilities to succeed. Yo-yoing has also been known to be effective tools for ADD, ADHD and autistic students. Great for stations or rainy days!
Offerings include:
Cost: FREE!
Time: 1-3 hours
This P.E. In-Service consists of a short demonstration of the spinning skill arts of yo-yo, top spinning and diabolo, with a brief introduction about how these skills relate not only to science, but to these Physical Education Objectives.
Eye-Hand Coordination, Catching Skills, Bilateral Proficiency, Fine Motor Skill-Building, Sequencing and Visual Tracking. These skills are also ideal in teaching the benefits of practice.
The majority of the time is then used to teach the P.E. teachers not only how to use some of these skill toys themselves, but more importantly, how to teach a yo-yo unit, spin top unit, and if time permits, a diabolo unit.
These units can be taught to an entire class and become ideal activities for rain days or when setting up small stations of activities for students to visit.
Each teacher in attendance receives a FREE yo-yo, as well as a packet containing instructional booklets on both yo-yo and spin top skill toys.
* All Teacher Development and In-Service Presentations contain a short description of the FREE Science of Spin program available to elementary schools.
